Our annual plan

Our annual plan is structured broadly into a three section pathway:

  1. The Conversation: initiate a conversation with New Zealanders about how the appropriate flow of information can enable and support their current and future healthcare experiences.
  2. The Plan: engage sector leaders in creating a 3-5 year plan to achieve the "vision" for access to personal health information and a series of 90 day and annual milestones.
  3. The Outcomes: measure and communicate progress against the plan in terms of clinical benefits

The Conversation

This begins with the launch of the National Health IT Board and people understanding its vision and purpose.

We want to understand:

  • what consumers think
  • what views health professionals have.

We want to know about the:

  • continuum of care
  • regional care verses national care
  • integrated care.

We want to understand what vendors need and how we can work together to deliver value for money and better health outcomes for New Zealanders. We expect to have a dedicated 'summit meeting' every six months to help maintain the conversation.

The Plan

Phase one of our plan requires laying down the foundations, collaboration and cooperation.

Phase two requires shared services.

The Outcomes

The outcomes we expect are:

  • electronic health records that support shared care becoming a reality
  • a knowledge base of clinical improvements/benefits from investments in information and IT solutions
  • access to health information and/or new information requests are addressed at source, without the need for new national collection systems
  • payment processes separated from information requests
  • shared information amongst health care professionals and organisations is trusted.
