Objectives of the National Information Clinical Leadership Group
The aims of the National Information Clinical Leadership Group are to:
- improve the quality of clinical process and practices, through standardisation and the use of information solutions that support and enable good practice for clinicians
- recognise established good practice from around the health sector and provide national leadership and support to ensure this is leveraged for the benefit of the wider sector.
The National Information Clinical Leadership Group's first task was to review the current problems with electronic discharge summaries from secondary to primary care. The National Information Clinical LEadership Group has now set objectives to address this issue. In 2010 we will address e-referrals.
As we are a new Group, it is important that you in the health sector are aware of our purpose and how we will function.
For example our Transfer of Care Project (starting with Discharge Summaries) aims to deal with issues that were identified some time ago, but have not been adequately addressed since then. These include:
- standardising the content of discharge summaries
- fixing the formatting problems (at the GP end) and updating the messaging standard
- allowing GPs to upload key information items to their system in a structured way, eg. medications.
