National Medication Safety Programme Update December 2011

The National Medication Safety Programme is jointly sponsored by the Health Quality & Safety Commission and the National Health Board/National Health IT Board.

The programme has two aims:

  • to greatly reduce the number of New Zealanders harmed each year by medication errors and adverse drug events in our hospitals, general practices, aged care facilities and across the entire health and disability sector
  • to improve the efficiency of our medication processes to gain better value from our resources.

Medication safety is a very active and dynamic programme, with a number of components. The purpose of these updates is to provide more detailed information about the programme, to complement the higher-level updates provided in the Commission and National Health IT Board newsletters.
