Latest progress and achievements on the National Solutions area
November 2011
The latest achievement in the National Solutions area include:
- a set of requirements for a national oncology system will be delivered in February 2012. The National View of Cancer project will integrate major sources of cancer data to enable access to high quality accurate information on incidence, treatments and outcomes.
- cardiologists and Cardio-thoracic surgeons have agreed nationally on a common set of clinical information requirements to support assessment, care planning and monitoring of outcomes for patients for cardiac surgery and treatment.
- finding and caring for vulnerable older people after February's earthquake in Canterbury was made much easier because of interRAI, an assessment and care planning tool. This tool is now being implemented at every DHB
- five telecommunications service providers have joined the Connected Health Network. This is a 'network of networks' delivered by multiple telecommunication service providers and improves reliability, safety and security of transferring health information
- a group of emergency department clinicians have designed a national standard workflow and set of clinical information requirements for emergency department information systems. This is a big advance from 18 months ago when individual DHBs were making separate decisions on IT solutions, without the benefit of a common clinical viewpoint
- the Health Identity Programme is upgrading the technology platform supporting the National Health Index and the Health Provider Index. October 2011 saw the first release of software to make address search and retrieval available to a small number of early adopters
