eMedicines Programme
The eMedicines Programme is introducing electronic systems to support the safe, effective and appropriate use of medicines. Having accurate, up to date and accessible information about people's medications is the programme's goal. Programme areas are:
- New Zealand ePrescription Service (Community)
The New Zealand ePrescription Service (NZePS)will send GP and hospital discharge prescriptions to community pharmacists electronically. National trials of the NZePS are underway. Read these recent questions and answers raised during the initial stages of the NZePS trial. Contact Andre Bredenkamp for more information on these trials.
- Inpatient ePrescribing
Inpatient ePrescribing will see medications for hospital patients recorded and charted electronically.
- Medicines Reconciliation
Electronic systems for medicine reconciliation will allow clinicians to view a list of the most current medicines a patient has been prescribed.
- NZ Universal List of Medicines
This is New Zealand's national list of current registered medications that has been prepared for universal use across the health and disability sector. Read the article in the September Towards 2014 newsletter
- NZ Medicines Formulary
The formulary will provide prescribers with online, standardised and up-to-date information about the use of medicines. Read Peter Dunne's Media Release 5 September 2011.
