Connected Health Network Connectivity Standards

Published:  September 2010

The Connected Health Architectural Framework, Network to Network Interface (NNI) and User to Network Interface (UNI) specifications are network connectivity standards. They have been produced as part of the Ministry of Health's Connected Health Programme and form part of the HISO 10029 Health Information Security Framework.

The Connected Health Architectural Framework describes a technical architecture for a closed community of computer networks creating one secure network for health i.e: a network of (private) networks.

The NNI specifications give the technical details needed for component private networks to interconnect with other private networks within the health sector's closed community e.g: from those users connected to the Telecom/Gen-i health network to those on the TelstraClear health network.

The UNI specifications describe the way in which end users, such as GPs, District Health Board staff and pharmacists connect to the secure Connected Health Network.

In October 2011 updates were made to 10037.3 Connected Health UNI Specification.  Details of the updates can be found on the Update page of the document

In December 2011, the status of these standards was changed from 'interim' to 'full'.
